Croyde

Croyde

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with one of the finest surfing beaches in the country, Croyde has been a popular holiday destination for more than a century.

The South West Coast Path – just two minutes from our door – takes you straight down onto the beach.  Tides are strong, attracting surfers from far and wide.  The bay faces due West, and in the evening, as the surfers leave, you can sit and watch the most spectacular sunset.

Choose from plenty of glorious walks and spectacular views.  Walking out to the end of Baggy Point, where the Atlantic Ocean crashes onto the rocks, takes less than an hour.  Follow the coastal path in the other direction and you’ll soon be overlooking Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows.

It’s a short stroll down to the centre of the village, where there are good pubs and restaurants to choose from, as well as shops selling daily necessities and everything a surfer could want.

Yet despite the increase in tourism, Croyde remains a Devon farming village.  Many of the buildings here are more than 100 years old and Croyde Stream still bubbles along beside the road and through the heart of the village.

Croyde Cycle has more about the history of the village, and John Lewis, who has lived in Croyde all his life, has recently published a fascinating and well-illustrated book called Croyde in my Lifetime
